Question : What is IEC?
Answer : Import Export Code Number is unique 10 digit code number issued by DGFT, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Govt. of India. The government has made it compulsory for all business which deal in import or export of goods to register for IEC irrespective of its size.
Question : What is the need/use of IEC?
Answer : IEC forms is the primary document for Import/ Export which is recognition by Government of India. On the basis of IEC, companies can obtain various benefits on their exports/imports from DGFT, Customs, Export Promotion Council etc
Question : How much time is required to take IEC ?
Answer : If all the documents are proper and as per DGFT requirement, IEC certificate will be issued on mail within 3 to 4 working days
Question : What is the validity of IEC?
Answer : Import Export Code is permanent and is valid for lifetime, so there is no need for renewal or update, it lasts until the business closes or the registration is surrendered
Question : Whether IEC is required if you have GST? 
Answer : Every person who imports or exports has to take IEC registration. It is mandatory to register a PAN with DGFT department if the business involves imports or exports even if you have registered under GST.
Question : Do we need to take different IEC number for each firm?
Answer : IEC is associated with PAN. Hence, if a person has more than one proprietorship firm then for every firm only one IEC registration is to be taken. If one has allotted more than one IEC for one PAN then one has to surrender the extra IEC
Question : What is the fee for fresh IEC Application?
Answer : Government fee is Rs.500/- for IEC Registration.
